The Lawn Program of the House of Finland, Sept. 10th

9/14/2017

The House of Finland had the annual Lawn Program on Sunday September 10th. We were serving vegetarian Pea Soup with Finnish oven pancakes and crepes. Naturally there is no happening that Finns would not serve coffee.
The Lawn area was closed by the City of san Diego so our program was performed at the patio behind of the Hall of Nations. The Lawn Program opened with the Pledge of Allegiance by our Princess Lena Luostarinen and the National Anthems performed by Vilmiina Nupponen. Our President Eeva Syvänen delivered a speech about House of Finland and its happenings during the 100th year of Finland's independence.
Terhi Kunto and Vilmiina Nupponen recited The Origin of the World by Kalevala. The main entertainment was music by Merja Soria who combined the Kantele (Finnish folk harp) and her voice to sang the memorable songs of Finland. At the end Raija Engblom and Carola Govenius-Vintola taught the audience the Finnish dance named Letkajenkka.

Kaupunki oli sulkenut talojen välissä olevan nurmialueen, joten ohjelma esitettiin Hall of Nationin takana olevalla terassilla.

August 26th Finnish Your Dinner - Illallinen taivaan alla

9/11/2017

100 days left until Finland’s centenary Finnish Your Dinner was spreading all around the world in celebration of Finland’s jubilee year by having a dinner together under the sky. Our own Finnish Your Dinner was at the lawn area at the front of House of Finland. Over 80 people joined to the dinner and had a special evening they will always remember.
On our
delicious Dinner menu we had Finnish tastes all made and served by Kati Nupponen.

Sata päivää ennen Suomen 100-vuotisitsenäisyyspäivää vietettiin Illallinen taivaan alla -tapahtumaa Suomessa ja ulkomailla asuvien suomalaisten toimesta ympäri maailmaa. San Diegon Suomi-talo osallistui maailmanlaajuiseen tapahtumaan organisoimalla illallisen Balboa puistoon, Suomi-talon edustalla olevalle nurmialueelle.

Ida Elina' Concert at Hall of Nations, Sun April 30th

9/6/2017

Ida Elina, the winner of the 2017 Evento Award as Performer of the Year, held a fabulous kantele concert in Hall of Nations. In addition to traditional Finnish kantele and folk music, she used her very unique rhythmic style to play and sing also pop-music from artists such as Michael Jackson and Pharrell Williams.

After the concert we had chance to buy Ida Elina's CDs with her signature and have a conversation with Ida Elina while enjoying the tasty Finnish refreshments made by Sirpa and Kati.

Ethnic Food fair May 28th

9/6/2017

The Ethnic Food Fair was held on Memorial Day weekend at Balboa Park’s International Cottages. House of Finland was serving vegetarian pea soup, rye bread with smoked salmon spread, berry pie, blueberry soup with ice cream, pulla and Finnish donuts. The visitors loved our delicious food and the decoration of the house. The new curtains and Asta's lovely paintings give the house a more modern feeling.

Memorial Day viikonloppuna vietettiin Balboa puiston kansainvälisillä taloilla Ethnic Food Fair -tapahtumaa.
