Monthly Membership Meetings


The House of Finland, located in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA, is open for the public every Sunday afternoon, and the members take turns to host the cottage. The host or hostess keeps the doors open for four hours between Noon and 5 p.m. Membership meetings will be held at 4 p.m. at the cottage on Jan 6, Feb 10, Mar 2, Apr 6, May 4, Jun 1, Sep 7, Oct 5, Nov 2. No meeting in July and August. The December meeting will be incorporated with the HOF Christmas party with installation of 2009 officers.

Laskiainen Dinner and Movie


Saturday February 2, 2008, Dinner at the House of Finland starting about 3 p.m. followed by the movie Pelikaanimies (Pelican Man) at 4 p.m. See page 2 of the January FINNews for details.

Finnish Church Services


The Finnish church services will be held at our familiar location, The Lutheran Church of the Incarnation, 16889 Espola Road, in Poway. The services will be conducted by Pastor Seppo Vesala and Irene Erkko! There will be coffee afterwards.

International Food Fair

Menu: Lettu pancakes, cold blueberry soup, coffee and punch, coffee breads and cakes

The International Food Fair is one of the two money making fairs each year for the cottages. The House of Finland has a tremendous reputation for quality and taste in our products, and we won't disappoint anyone this year either. Come and be part of our enthusiastic group and show your Finnish sisu and our famous smile.

Saturday, June 21, 2008, Afternoon until the fire burns out or the Sea World fireworks are over, at Crown Point on the beach

Bring your own food, drinks, and lawn chairs, also blankets or extra clothes because the evening air will get cold. If you have extra firewood, bring it with you. Finnish bonfire is traditionally biggest and boldest. You are not allowed to bring glass containers, and there will be no alcohol after 8 p.m.

House of Finland Lawn Program


The House of Finland will present the Sunday June 29, 2008 lawn program at 2 p.m. on the stage at the Houses of Pacific Relations in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA.
